I have a great new opportunity for you support my trip to India below, but first: an update!
We had our second to last meeting today before our trip and I am so excited!! We have almost decided on a project for the girls to do on our assigned day and we think it is going to be creating/decorating journals! We would use die-cuts and scrapbooking paper to cut out bird outlines ahead of time (so they can put a bird on it).
It actually has a way deeper inspiration than Portlandia, though: one of the women in my group was reading Luke 12:6-7
"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."We probably won't share that exactly with the girls since we don't want to trigger anyone, but we will share the sentiment that the Bible tells us God even cares for the smallest birds and we are much more precious than birds, so how much must God love and care about us?! (There's also Matthew 6:25-34 -- the infamous "Do not worry" passage, which also mentions birds -- to fall back on.)
I especially love the whole idea because we are the first group to do a project, which means the girls will have their journals for the entirety of the camp experience!
I'm thinking they'd be similar to these. And the website even has a bird theme!! It's a sign! |
While we're on the topic of India: there's another chance to support my trip!! I'm raffling off a 1-hour massage at Massage Envy ($60-80 value) on Saturday, September 27th.
It's only $1 per chance or $5 for 10 chances. (If I raise $100 I'll draw TWO names!!)
Donate at https://www.crossroads.net/GOTripGive/2833 and I will enter your name the appropriate number of times. You can also give me cash if you would rather do that. The winner will only need to give me their name and phone number and I will arrange for one of my pre-paid massages to be transferred to you for you to use at any Massage Envy in the country!
This is open to EVERYONE so feel free to share it and pass it along! Thanks for all your help!!!!
